Advantages and disadvantages of conveyor belt materials




Industrial belt materials can be divided into PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PU (polyurethane), PE (polyolefin), Si (silica gel). Below we will do some analysis on the advantages and disadvantages of these several conventional materials.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride)

Advantages 1. Economical application. The price of the conveyor belt should be considered in the actual use process, so economic efficiency should be considered.



      2, easy to process, PVC is relatively easy to process in the processing process, good plasticity;



      3, acid and alkali resistance, PVC is chemically stable, has a certain ability to resist weak acid and weak base.



Disadvantages 1. Low hardness and no wear resistance. The PVC conveyor belt has poor wear resistance during use. This is the reason why some equipment needs to use PU when it is selected.



      2, poor oil resistance, PVC conveyor belt should not be used in food machinery and other places with edible oil or mechanical oil.



 

PU (polyurethane)

Advantages 1. High hardness and wear resistance. The surface hardness of PU conveyor belt can reach 80-90, which has the advantages of wear resistance and cutting resistance;



      2, good oil resistance, PU conveyor belt is widely used in the food industry, edible oil mechanical oil will not have a great impact on its service life;



      3, the drum is good, the over-rolling property mentioned here means that the conveyor belt will rarely produce jitter during the use;



      4, food grade, PU conveyor belt due to its characteristics in food has a wide range of applications, pasta machinery, fried foods.



Disadvantages 1. Expensive, the price of PU conveyor belt is relatively expensive compared to PVC conveyor, so the production cost may be considered in the selection;



      2, weak acid and alkali, relative to PVC transport, the PU conveyor belt is relatively weak in acid and alkali resistance



 

PE (polyolefin)

Advantages 1, food grade, this is a selling point of PE belt, it is absolutely in line with food grade, the combustion produces water and CO2;



2. Good anti-pyrolysis, stable chemical properties and good heat resistance;



      3, decomposition is non-toxic, PE is not only decomposed and non-toxic, but also relatively easy to decompose.



Disadvantages 1. Low hardness and no wear resistance. PE belts are mostly used in the food industry and pharmaceutical industry, and should not be used in other industries;



      2, oil and acid resistance is poor acid and alkali, it is best not to use equipment with edible oil mechanical oil.



 

Si (silica gel)

Advantage 1, food grade, this feature is an important reason for its use in the food industry;



      2, high temperature resistance, silicone belt can be used to withstand high temperatures of 100-500 degrees, stable chemical properties



      3, anti-stick, silicone with non-stick sugar, chocolate and other foods with high sugar content.



Disadvantages 1, expensive, silicone belt is more expensive than ordinary conveyor belt;



      2, the hardness is low, so that some conveyor belts in the oven mostly use Teflon mesh belt / cloth;



3, the roller is poor, the silicone belt has no lateral stability, and the material is relatively soft.



Some formulations can be used to improve some of the physical properties of these materials during the production of today's industrial belts. As manufacturing levels continue to increase, we have reason to believe that industrial belt players play an important role in the future.
